What if we told you there was a set of earbuds that could transform how you hear the world? Yes, we know, that could be the slogan for virtually any audio company on the planet, but this time it’s meant literally.

Noah Kraft, CEO of Doppler Labs, says that he “wants to put a computer, speaker, and mic in everyone’s ear.” The company is launching Here Active Listening, a pair of small battery-powered buds that come with exactly what Kraft envisioned; a mic, speaker and digital sound processor which is designed to change the way in which he hear the world (yes – that’s the world, not our music), tailoring it to our preferences.

Kraft is quick to point out, Here is ‘not a hearing aid, it isn’t a Bluetooth headset and it isn’t a sound recorder’. So, what’s the point of it? The idea is that this innovative device can enhance the sound of live performances, tailoring them to the individual’s own needs and preferences. A little less reverb, sir? Certainly. More bass, madame? You’ve got it.

Here Active Listening promises to ‘transform’ the way you hear the world

There are essentially three elements to the Here Active Listening System. The first is the volume control, whereby the mic receives the world’s sounds and either increases or decreases the volume. Next, Here can apply equalizer effects which will emphasize certain frequencies, much in the same way you’d adjust your stereo system. The third and final element is the fact that you can play around with effects including reverb and delay to really make the world a more interesting place! It’s all controlled via the smartphone app which syncs up with the Bluetooth buds. So if you’ve ever wanted to transform your own personal live music experience then now’s your chance. It’s an audiophile’s dream, and quite possibly your favorite band’s (and their sound team’s) worst nightmare.
